New Years - Lancaster Style

Oh man, I really need to clean my room. It's really not lookin' good - clothes everywhere, starbucks and other mugs...mail...looks like it's going to be a Friday night in for this girl with laundry and organizing on the agenda.

But right now, laying under my covers on this Wednesday evening and doing a little blogging seems way better than anything else I can think of. Those two-a-day workouts must be really getting the best of me! I've decided I have some serious fitness goals for this year, so waking up at 545 almost everyday for a 615 spin class has been the norm, followed by work, and then closing the day with either spin, pilates or yoga...

Which reminds me, in addition to cleaning on my Friday night in, I also really need to sit and write my New Years Resolutions. It's a goal of mine to have my goals written. Yearly, monthly, weekly, daily goals - whatever it takes to help myself be a better person - whatever it takes to enrich my body, my mind and my soul.

Anyway, that brings me to wanting to share my New Years Celebrations. Another success with my girlfriends...

To celebrate the coming of a New Year - I headed to Amish Country to visit one of my very best friends, Marianne, in Lancaster so that we could bring in 2014 together. I love traveling East because I always get to see more than just one goodie - Meg came in from Philly to visit too.

I got their late Jan 30, so we had to spend all Jan 31 catch up, watch the most memorable moments recap on 'Kelly and Michael' (hilarious -  sometimes I wish I could stay home and watch daytime TV everyday), have a few failed attempts at getting a cute selfie...

these aren't tooooo bad...

but, we've done better.

We had an afternoon beer flight at my favorite spot in Lancaster, The Spring House Brewing Co. Taproom...

(I sipped on that fourth one from the left a little too soon ;-)

And we bought lots of lots of champagne for the celebrations...

For the evening, of course we had a great snack table...Thanks, Meg for the Tomato Pie (a Philly favorite). And Jamie, we missed you - but that dip your mom makes is there in the corner ;-)

We did lots of cheersing...

(champagne with sorbet...delicious)
We stepped back into our college days with lots of beer pong...but mostly we just got to enjoy each others company.

I am so blessed to have such amazing, beautiful friends...

xo, cheers, namaste,

MK

P.S. I figured I'd start the New Year off cooking so I made a New Years Day Breakfast for a hungry (maybe hungover ;-)) bunch...

(look at all those eggs!)

Happy (belated) 2014!

The New Year, #The365Project and Prosperity

Well, 2013 has arrived. Welcome.

I am spending most of this weekend preparing (or planning to prepare) for 2013  - aka I am analyzing, creating (and negotiating) my New Years Resolutions. Looking back, my very first post of Intrepid Moves was "new years resolutions" - many carry over...still working on the person I want to be, I suppose.

One new project I decided to take on this year is #The365Project - a single photo every day. I'm excited because this project challenges me to be creative everyday, and to share my creativity. I am documenting my photos here @ a.k.a. MK:

I chose this one for today, because yoga is a big part of my New Years Resolutions. I haven't been as dedicated to the practice as I was a few months back, and I feel noticeably different. I need more yoga in my life! Today I took a Kundalini class and we focused on prosperity. I like the idea of the new year being full of success. Of course, since I made this project a focus of my day, I took a few other photos:

D's cabbage soup - recipe to come!

From spending some time thinking about 2013, I can see the year is going to present it's challenges.

I am ready.

MK

Garth Stevenson

Having a nice friday evening at home; relaxing, drinking wine and trying to reorganize myself after the holidays - just finished with a teacher workshop on shoulders and preventing injuries - I'm listening to my favorite Pandora radio station (Florence and the Machine) and I'm reminded of a musician I was recently introduced to - Garth Stevenson. I first heard his music in a yin yoga class - so beautiful and moving, the sounds truly brings you inward - great for a slow paced class.

Garth Stevenson
Bassist and composer of music for yoga classes.

His two albums, Alpine and Flying, are available on his website - either via physical cd - which would include a handmade album case - or electronically. His albums are also available on itunes.

Enjoy.

Happy new year!
Happy new blog!

The new year is all about new beginnings - and I have decided to begin this blog. Having just finished a 200 hour yoga teacher training program, I hope to bring myself, and you, lots of yoga this year! So to begin I will say this - while I would love to make it to a yoga studio everyday for class, working and other life events can make getting to class tough. So, in order to honor myself and my new years resolutions, the past two days I have been taking classes online via Yogaglo (yogaglo) - a great online resource for classes. I just recently started using the website and I LOVE it. You can take classes in lots of different styles/levels and at any length - they even have 5 minute videos - so there's never an excuse not to yoga everyday! The website is really easy to navigate and there is a great "beginner center" where new yogi's can watch short videos to get introduced to the many different styles of yoga and even begin or improve on meditation skills. Best part - you can sign up for a free 15 day trial - and then for only $18.00 a month you can have a teacher in front of you everyday! Being a yoga teacher myself - I know the importance of having a hands on yoga experience with a teacher who can give you feedback, especially to prevent injury - but this is a great inexpensive way to supplement a regular class at your yoga studio.

Happy yoga year!

Cheers.
